YSDK and ProKlim Working Group “Sadar Alam” Implement Climate and Disaster Resilient Agricultural Demonstration Plot Development in Tamong Village

YSDK, in collaboration with the Sadar Alam ProKlim Working Group, has initiated the development of a training and research demonstration plot focused on climate- and disaster-resilient agriculture in Tamong Village. This initiative serves as a continuation of the Participatory Assessment of Climate Change and Disaster Risks (PACDR) workshop and introduces the implementation of a terracing system on agricultural and plantation land as a sustainable adaptation measure.

The introduction of a terracing system represents a strategic intervention, considering the geographic landscape of Tamong Village, which is predominantly composed of sloped terrain and therefore highly prone to landslides. Climate change further amplifies these challenges, affecting food security and threatening the long-term sustainability of local agricultural and plantation systems.

The activity commenced with a socialization session on the demonstration plot design for members of the Sadar Alam ProKlim Working Group. This was followed by a collaborative work session to establish the demonstration plot, despite unpredictable weather conditions. The process continued with the construction of planting beds and the planting of trees to serve as natural soil stabilizers, complemented by vegetable cultivation to support sustainable land management practices.

Mrs. Anis, a member of the Sadar Alam ProKlim Working Group, expressed that the activity provided her with new knowledge. She explained that the community in Tamong Village has not been accustomed to managing sloped land using the terracing system. She plans to replicate this practice on her own land and hopes that the established demonstration plot will serve as a practical example for other residents. With ongoing assistance from the Sadar Alam ProKlim Working Group, she hopes the method can be adopted collectively within the community.

Through this initiative, Tamong Village is expected to be better prepared in facing climate and disaster risks, while simultaneously strengthening community food security in a sustainable manner.
